What is Accreditation?
- It is a scheme for members of the Gateshead Private Landlords Association
(GPLA) to provide official recognition that accommodation is of good
quality, safe and well managed. The scheme is linked to membership of
the Gateshead Private Landlords Association (GPLA). The GPLA Code of
Practice which all members sign up to is designed to ensure good management
standards and practices by landlords participating in the scheme. In
addition, the relevant physical standards relating to the property are
verified by an accreditation Officer.
- Landlords wishing to participate in the scheme will be actively encouraged
to join the GPLA, however if a property owner is able to demonstrate
that they have good management standards and practices in place then
they will become eligible to participate in the scheme, subject to the
physical property standards being met.
- Accredited properties are those which the Accreditation Officer has
certified as meeting the requirements stated in the scheme's code of
standards. Accreditation enables a landlord to display a certificate
of accreditation in the property to which it relates.
Who runs it?
- The scheme has been established by Gateshead Council in partnership
with the GPLA. Officers from the Council oversee the promotion and day
to day running of the scheme.
Is it Voluntary?
- Yes, the scheme is voluntary and there is no cost involved in participating.
What if all of my properties do not currently comply with the relevant
standards?
- You can still participate in the scheme, as it is property specific.
You can have accredited properties and non-accredited properties, however
we actively encourage you to work towards accredited status for your
non-accredited properties. We are happy to inspect these properties
at any time, identify any work needed and if necessary prepare and issue
schedules of work required to meet the accredited standard.
How long will accreditation last for?
- The accreditation status will last for 3 years. At the end of this
period further checks and a re-inspection of the property will be undertaken
before the accredited status is renewed. Relevant certificates for each
property will also be required annually and spot check inspections of
properties may be carried out within the 3 year accreditation period.
Accredited status may be suspended in the following circumstances:-
