What is the role of the Council and GPLA Partnership?

Gateshead Council and the Gateshead Private Landlords' Association will jointly administer and monitor the
Accreditation Scheme.
In order to fulfill its role the partnership will:-
- Assist landlords in achieving accredited status for their properties
by undertaking property inspections, providing advice on relevant standards,
legislation and general issues as necessary. Inform participants of
any proposed changes in legislation and consider their implications
for the scheme.
- Maintain a database of accredited properties.
- Work with landlords of accredited properties to access information
from other Council services in order to obtain rapid resolution of queries.
- Raise awareness and give advice on energy efficiency measures in accredited
properties.
- Promote and publicise the scheme and its advantages in consultation
with its partners.
What is expected of the landlord?
- Landlords of accredited properties will be expected to:-
- At all times comply with the GPLA codes of practice or management
code of practice agreed with accreditation officer.
- Comply with the Accreditation Scheme's code of standards.
- Once accreditation is achieved the property must be maintained to
these standards.
- Ensure that any staff or persons acting on their behalf comply with
the requirements of the scheme and GPLA code of practice.
