- Harassment is when a landlord acts unlawfully to make a tenant want
to leave their tenancy or not want to take up any of their rights.
- Illegal Eviction is a landlord forcing a tenant to leave their home without
following the correct legal procedure.
- It is a criminal offence under the Protection from Eviction Act 1977
for anyone to harass or illegally evict a private tenant.
- Action which could amount to harassment or illegal eviction include:-
- Removing doors and windows
- Changing the locks
- Disconnecting services
- Threats of violence
- Interfering with the tenants' private possessions
